The firm of “Merry” as a bottling company was founded in 1868 by Robert A. Merry. The business grew steadily and in 1883 an extensive bonded warehouse was opened. Merrys stored a wide range of Whiskeys in selected casks where they took particular pride in the fact that they were one of the largest holders of Old Irish Pot Still whiskey in the South of Ireland. They also stocked popular brands of scotch whiskeys.it was through this that the business’ reputation for giving good value and excellent quality was established and “Merrys” soon became a house hold name.

Merrys business continued expanding to include shipping wines, sherries, ports, clarets and burgundies of the highest standard which were bought directly from countries such as Portugal, Spain and France. Merry’s was also celebrated for its bottled beers. they began with Guinness Extra Stout and for over 60 years handled this world famous stout under their own label where their white label was a warranty itself guaranteeing the perfect bottle of stout. they were the largest bottlers of bass & Co. Ales in the Irish state and always promoted the sale of home producing the well known Waterford Ale-kielys XX.
